What comes after gold?

A product design question from a product manager interview, set at Sonapay, a fictional savings / wealth company.

The question

You're a PM at Sonapay, an Indian app where people save in digital gold through small daily UPI auto-debits. Sonapay has 15 million savers putting ₹10–50 a day into digital gold. What should it build next?

A starting structure

Mission and business goal → what has changed in the market → savers by habit and need → pick one segment → their money moments → options, scored on value, risk and fit → v1 → metrics

How to approach this case

Start with why Sonapay exists and what it needs next: revenue per user, keeping savers saving, or protecting the business from outside change. Ask what is shifting in the market, since that can rule options in or out. Then segment savers by behaviour, such as how steady their saving habit is, why they save and how they withdraw, rather than by age alone. Pick one segment with a clear reason. Look at the moments when money actually matters in these users' lives and what happens to their savings then. Generate options that range from safe extensions to bold bets, and score each on user value, risk to the user, risk to the company and fit with the mission. Be honest about first-time savers with thin financial histories. A strong close names a north star about lasting savers and guardrails that catch harm.
