Udhaar for kirana stores
A product design question from a product manager interview, set at SoundPay, a fictional merchant payments company.

How to approach this case
Start with why SoundPay wants this at all. A free ledger only makes sense if it ties back to something the company earns from or wants more of, so ask about goals, the existing merchant app and constraints before sketching screens. Then pick one owner to design for: a busy store at peak hour, a family-run shop with a shared phone and a newer owner comfortable with apps need different things. Walk through the life of one credit entry, from the sale to the day the money comes back, and rank the pain points along the way. Build on what SoundPay already has, its QR payments, the soundbox and messaging, rather than inventing new hardware. A strong close names a north-star metric tied to the company goal, a guardrail that protects the owner's relationship with customers, and what waits for v2.
