The claim after the crash

A product design question from a product manager interview, set at Bimakavach, a fictional motor insurance company.

The question

You're a PM at Bimakavach, a digital-first Indian two-wheeler insurer. The claims team has six feature requests for the two-wheeler claim journey and engineering capacity for one this quarter. Design the claim experience and pick what to build.

A starting structure

Goal and capacity first → claim types by size and situation → pick one claim segment → the claim journey step by step → score the six requests on shared criteria → pick one with a v1 → metrics

How to approach this case

Clarify what the company wants to improve this quarter: speed, cost, ratings or losses. Ask how much engineering time there really is, because it decides which options are even possible. Then split claims into types by size and situation, and pick the type that matters most for that goal. Walk through that rider's claim from the moment of the accident to the money arriving, and mark where time is lost and where the rider feels anxious. Score all six requests on the same criteria, such as how many claims each one touches, how much it helps the rider, what it does to fraud exposure and how long it takes to build. Say which stakeholders lose out and how you would handle them. A strong close names one pick with a clear first version, a north star, a guardrail on losses and what comes next.
