Volume up, revenue flat

A product strategy question from a product manager interview, set at Pravah, a fictional neobank / cross-border payments company.

The question

You're a PM at Pravah, a multi-currency neobank with about 6M users, strongest with travellers and people sending money abroad. Our payments product (card spend, currency exchange and transfers) keeps growing in volume, but revenue per user has been flat for a year. Leadership wants revenue per user up 25% in 12 months. How do we get there?

A starting structure

Revenue per user = card interchange + FX markup + other fees, split by user segment

How to approach this case

Start with the gap: what is revenue per user today, what does +25% mean in dollars, and what must not break, such as the low-cost brand and the way new users arrive. Decompose revenue per user by stream, then segment users by what they use Pravah for: travel, sending money, getting paid from abroad, or everyday spending. Each group has a different willingness to pay. Ask where Pravah carries real cost today and where some users get far more value than they pay for. Before proposing a new fee, ask how each product contributes to acquisition and retention, not only revenue. Size each lever with the numbers available. A strong close recommends a sequenced portfolio that clears the target, explains the pricing logic, and sets guardrails on NPS, churn and acquisition.
